Highlights of Mongolian Altai is high snow-capped mountains, glaciers, ancient archeological sites and unique nomadic customs of locals, as Kazakh and Tuvan people. Only here you can meet Kazakh Eaglehunters with their magnificient bird, which is trapped mostly from wild. The mountain belt of the Mongol Altai with their perpetual snow, glaciers, traces and signs of ancient ice covers, has been well preserved due to a constantly cold climate and strong winds. The area is inhabited by some endangered animals (such as the Argali sheep, Ibex, Snow Leopard, Rock Ptarmigan and Altai Snowcock) and plants (such as the Dwarf Siberian Pine and White Gentiana). The biggest glacier of the country Potanin is in the Altai Mountains and has a total area of 107.9 square km.

ACTIVITIES:

These few days, staying in same gercamp, you can walk up and down about 16kms() along Potanin Glacier to see the highest snow capped peaks of Mongolian Altai- Khuiten(4374m),…….Malchin(4025m).If you want,can stay one night in tent near those peaks to climb next day to Malchin Peak(5hrs up and 4hrs down).Excellent view from Malchin for peak-Belukha(4506), located on the north-east (about 130kms) , as border between Kazakhstan and Russian Altai Areas.

One day hiking will be towards Shiveet Khairkhan Mountian,which is sacred mountain for local tuvans,as far they provide Shaman’s Ceremony in the beginning of every July.Walking around this mountian,you will see many ancient petro-glyphs and carved stones with face.As sacred mountain, here is no hunting, so many ibexs live there.If you book earlier, we can organize to meet with Tuvan shaman.

LOCATIAN:

High Altai rocky mountians (2200m-4374m) with glaciers, high speed mountain rivers with white water.

HORSE and CAMEL RIDES:

Hourly,half day or full day horse and camel rides can be organized at the additional cost.Picnic lunch can be provided from the camp.

TRANSFERS:

Operates ever week 2 times and are subsidezed as shared stuff. It takes 5-6hrs one way.On the way, you have a chance to enjoy remote spectacular mountain country.

LOW IMPACT GERCAMP:

BLUE WOLF is entered into a concession agreement with local administration to bring  additional jobs into the area based on traditional livelihoods.

So local herdsmen can rent their horses and camels, also our camp buys milk products from them. Vehicles are parked a short walk away from the camp.The camp does not have WC blocks.The toilets are long drop style allowing for natural decomposition.Showers are organized in small ger with with hot water by portable showers. The camp can be relocated leaving no more impact on the area,than herdsman family would.
