This trip is getting really popular for our clients as this is big opportunity to have your own experience for eaglehunting and see the eagle festival.You will have a part in eaglehunting.Going side by side with eaglehunters, you make funny and enjoyable horseback trip.If you are lucky,the eagle can catch some wild animals like hairs,foxes and wild cat.
Day 1/16th Sept. Fly to Ulgii/Hovd and Drive to Blue Goat Nat.Park
Transfer to the airport .Domestic flight (4hrs) to Bayan-Ölgii [1/2 hour refuel stop in Tosontsengel or Moron] On arrival met by local kazakh guide.Drive to town. After lunch, drive towards south (5-6 hrs) about 200km.We will have view to the beautifull and remote country.We visit one of the local Kazakh nomadic families and stay there for few days.
Days 2-3/17th -18th Sept. Blue Goat National Park
Every day going with local horse rangers by the wild big remote mountains of Blue Goat Nat.Park, we can watch some Argalis,Ibexs and deers. This place has many wild endangerous animals and birds like snowleopard, Altai argali and Ibex,lynx,wolfrine and bearded volchure,black volchure,different kinds of falcons,golden eagle, and others.We have the chance to visit some Kazakh families and feel the grade hospitalities.Also you will see how Kazakh women make the handycrafts.
Days 4-7/19th -20th Sept. Go to Festival with Eaglehunters on horseback
Riding the mongolian small but tough horses,you go side by side with eaglehunter to hunt fox,rabbit,wild cat and may be wolf.So you have chance to have part in this unique hunting of Altai Kazakh people.Have picnic lunch on the mountian and enjoy remote mountian country.You can try to hold the golden eagle on your hand and in photo.
Days 8-9/21st-22nd Sept. Altai Kazakh Eagle Festival
Meet the Kazakh Eaglehunters.The rodeo of eaglehunting.A fantastic opportunity for photographers and adventurers alike to see these magnificent birds up close.There are approx.400 eaglehunters in Bayan-Ulgii aimag.eaglehunters from around regions gather to test their finely trained birds in singular contests of speed and agility in these few days.During the festival we also see some Kazakh Traditional Horse Games like “BushKushi”(Try to take out from each other the goat skin on horseback),”Kiss woman on horseback”,”Pick up coins from the land on horseback” and others.In the evening we enjoy to have the Kazakh Concert with some traditional songs and music.
Day 10/23rd Sept. Drive to Altai Tavan Bogd Nat.Park
We will drive further west. Bayan-Ulgii is rich in archaeological remains, as a reminder of the Bronze Ages and the time of the Huns and Turkic invasions. At Shiveet Hairhan Mountain, where numerous Tuvan nomads live, in Altai Tavanbogd National Park, we will pitch our camp. Shiveet Hairhan is holy for them, so there are about 400 Ibexes there. Sometimes seen, sometimes not seen.Here we will be able to view the biggest petroglyphs from the second period of the Huns (200 B.C.). The Huns were the reason for the Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huangdi to build and finish the Great Wall of China at this time. Overnight in tents.
Days 11/24th Sept. Potanina Glacier and Altai Tavan Bogd Peaks
We will do hikes in the area. In the mountains here, there are some 20 glaciers and this is one of the few locations in the world where camels are used as pack animals in glacier areas. Should weather conditions be difficult we will not be able to see the glaciers. Tavanbogd means “the Holy Five” referring to the five highest peaks, of which Huiten Uul is the highest in Mongolia, 4374 meters above sea level. Quite a considerable height at this altitude.
Days 12-13/25th-26th Sept.Big Lakea and Altai Tavan Bogd Nat.Park
Driving towards Big Lakes,we will stay on Snake Valley.There are many Turkic stones with face. After lunch, drive nearby western side of Hurgan Nuur and Hoton Nuur,where many Nomadic Kazakh families spend summer.Along the lakes,we see the beautifull waterfall,rockprintings and some ancient Turkic stones with face.On the right side we see the snowcapped mountains with forest,which make the wall between China and Mongolia.
Second day: to Dayan Lake. A half day drive to Dayan Lake, near the frontier with China.Visit Kazakh Nomadic Families and feel their grade hospitalities.Overnight with family.
Day 14/27th Sept. Back to Ulgii/Hovd
Trek back on the other side of the Tsagaan River. Drive back to Ulgii
Day 15/28th Sept. Fly To UB
Transfer to the airport and fly to UB approx.4 hrs.
Some recommendations: From our last 6 years experiences, September sunny and quiet month. But the temperature can fluctuate as much 20 degrees centigrade between day and night.So be prepared for all weather conditions.Can be wet snow and raining also.
What to bring: Binoculars,sunscreen,a hat,gloves,long underware for travel in the high mountains,comfortable footware,lip balm,sanitary hand wipes,sunglasses,prescription medications,(if needed),rain gear,flashlight.
Transport: For eaglehunting , local Kazakh people use horses.The services of some herdsmen will be hired by the expedition, and they will provide us with their animals.
Staff: A local guide who speaks English and Mongolian will accompany the group at all times.A cook will follow, with an assistant.In addition, the services of the local herdsmen will be hired along with their animals.The horsemen follow a traditional lifestyle in the areas where we will be riding.
Meals: Our cook will prepare the meals.We pride ourselves in having cooks adapt to both western and Mongolian cooking on our trips.There are always vegetables available, and we have no problem accommodating vegetarians on our trips.For breakfast we can usually buy fresh yogurt from the herdsmen in the local area.
