    Arrive Ulaangom

    Come to Ulaangom airport and meet local guide. Drive to south about 50 km and reach the Lake Blue. Pitch a camp. (Tent/BLD).

    Day Hike around Blue Lake

    Today we hike around blue lake, one of Mongolia's most beautiful sites is a great place for strolling around, enjoying the magnificent sites of crystal blue lake surrounded by amazing flowers and snowed peaks. You will see one of the most beautiful lakes. (Tent/BLD).

    Drive to Lake Achit

    Drive a full day towards to west, see the Achit Nuur. On the way, we will drive through the 'Red Mountain Pass' to 'Uureg' Lake, where you will have a picnic lunch. The lake is home to many kinds of waterfowl which can be viewed from the shore line. Achit Nuur is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Mongolia. There are stunning sunsets and sunrises and good fishing for grayling, lenok, Altai osman and others. You can enjoy seeing spectacular and beautiful landscapes. (Tent/BLD).

    Drive to Altai Tavan Bogd

    First day we drive about 150 km and pitch a camp just near Lake Sogoog. Next day, after driving about 140 km, we reach our road end. This is home place of Tuvan people, who don't have any religion. (Tent/BLD).

    Altai Tavan bogd

    With the support of camels, we will trek for 16 km to the base camp area at the edge of the 20 km long Potanin glacier, that runs down from the highest mountains in Mongolia. We will pitch our camp right here. Tavanbogd means “The Holy Five" referring to the peaks of Huiten (4374 m and the highest), Naran, Ulgii, Burget and Nairamdal. It is a stunning setting with the awe inspiring massif of high snow capped peaks. (Tent/BLD).

    Altai Snow Capped Peaks

    We will remain in the same camp and make a day hike up the non-technical heights of Malchin Uul, where we are likely to trek up through snow. There is also a smaller hill nearby allowing for excellent and stunning views of the mountains, mainly into Russian Altai, but in the distance also China. (Tent/BLD).

    Potanin Glacier

    Today we trek back along the the 20 km long Potanin glacier, that runs down from the highest mountains in Mongolia. We have a chance to visit some local nomadic families. Next day we cross Tsaagan River (White River) and trek to Shiveet Hairhan Mountain, where the Tuva people live. Here we will now be able to view the biggest petrolgyphs from the period of the Huns (approx 200 B.C.). The Huns were the reason for the Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huangdi to build the Great Wall of China. (Tent/BLD).

    Drive to Lake Tolbo

    Drive out on the steppe valley towards the Lake Tolbo. It has crystal clear fresh water and good fishing. (Tent/BLD).

    Drive to Tavan Belchir

    After driving 4-5 hrs, we will pitch camp just on the north side of Tsamba-Garav Uul(one of the highest snow capped mountains in Mongolia 4208 m). The place called “Tavan Belchir"/Five Pastures/. (Tent/BLD).

    Horse trek to Glaciers and Rocky Mountians

    We will ride horses and see the beautiful snow capped peaks,rocky valleys and crystal clear spring waters.We visit the nomadic Kazakh and Urianhai (one of western Mongolian ethnic groups) families and feel their grade hospitality. From north west side of the TsambaGarav Uul we have the chance to hike easily closer to snow caps. On the east of TsambaGarav Uul we trek by the narrow beautiful canyon,where is good for fishing. Meet the Kazakh eagle hunter with his Golden Eagle. (Tent/BLD).

    Drive to Hovd Town

    Drive to South and reach Hovd town. Pitch camp near river Buyant. The Hovd town was a trade center, located on the northern Silk Road with connections to Russia and China. In 1763 the Manchu administration built the fortress Sagijn Cherem(Castle). An area of about 4 ha was fenced with 3 m high and 2 m wide walls. Now all 18 Mongolian ethic groups live in this province.     Khar Us Nuur National Park

    We have 2 days explorations for this national park, where WWF Mongolia is very active. The largest of the lakes is Kahr Us Nuur/Black Water Lake/. We will try local hospitality at Jargalant Harhan Mountain and hike into Rashantiin Am/Spring Valley/, sacred valley. Here is a sacred spring which is being said to have medicinal properties, including for good for eye diseases. The great lakes basin has the largest reed beds in all of Central Asia, with many bird species as well as Saiga Antelope, the rare Wild Boar(in the reeds), Snow Leopards, Gazelle, Wolves etc. (Tent/BLD).

    Drive back to Hovd

    Drive back to Hovd. Pitch camp near river Buyant. (Tent/BLD).

    Fly Out

    Transfer to the airport and fly to UB approx.3 hrs. (B).
Some recommendations Summer months in Mongolia are from early June to mid September. Although the Mongolian summers are hot and dry with occasional rain, the temperature can fluctuate as much 20 degrees centigrade between day and night. So be prepared for all weather conditions.
What to bring Binoculars, sunscreen, a hat, gloves, long underwear for travel in the high mountains, comfortable footwear, lip balm,sanitary hand wipes, sunglasses, prescription medications (if needed), rain gear, flashlight.
Transport This expedition is supported by a jeep or minibus on the Altai Mountain road tracks.
Staff A Mongolian English speaking local guide will accompany the group at all times. A cook will follow. Plus drivers.
Meals Our cook will prepare the meals. We pride ourselves in having cooks adapt with both western and Mongolian cooking on our trips. There are always vegetables available, and we have no problem accommodating vegetarians.
Overnights This is a vehicle supported camping trip. Tents and mattresses will be provided for the camping nights. You need to bring your own sleeping bag. A portable camping shower will be provided.
